Michigan football fans might wonder if something is going on at the linebacker position as Hayden Moore became the third linebacker to enter the transfer portal since the end of spring ball.

Hayden Moore, a member of the 2023 recruiting class, will enter the portal according to reports. That’s fresh off the departures of Semaj Bridgeman and Jeremiah Beasley, who just signed as part of the 2024 class.

Fans tend to freak out about transfer portal departures, which is understandable. But here are some thoughts on Moore and the departures at linebacker.

Michigan football doesn’t need to worry about linebacker

While you never want to lose talented players, the truth is that none of the three players who departed played a snap last season. They weren’t likely to play much this season unless it was in garbage time.

You still don’t want young players to leave before they can develop. But it happens, especially nowadays, also when you have as many linebacker coaches as Michigan football has had.

None of the players who left for the transfer portal were recruited by Brian Jean-Mary and that’s always part of the equation. You add that to the fact that they weren’t likely to see the field next season and you can understand why they might want to leave.

Beasley is probably the most disappointing. He just signed with Michigan football and was one of the top players in the state of Michigan for the 2024 class. But it is what it is. It’s also nothing to be concerned about as the Wolverines have needs to fill via the transfer portal and now they have three more spots to work with.
